Shit's goin nuts

One more time from Nihon, the second installment of the Mix Fix.

Download: MIX007 (Mix no.7)

(mp3, 73MB, 1:17:30 running length)

This mix was made using all my favorite party music from Spring 2009.  You will have to forgive the rough start, but I promise that if you get past the first three songs it is smooth sailing.  I really enjoy the ending.  The nostalgia of all those nights in the North Bottoms.  I will forever remember New Hampshire St. while listening to this mix, so if you participated in the activities, enjoy the memory through these bumpin air waves.

The title of this post is inspired by this. Pictured above is what you might come to expect from parties set to these tunes. If you enjoyed make sure to check out (Mix no.5).

zebraGreetings, Internet. My name is Ariel, and once upon a time I was crazy about drawing zebras. Since I’m still in the process of organizing an up-to-date art portfolio, I thought I’d go ahead and share a slightly older project, but I couldn’t resist including one of these guys in my first post.

One of the neatest art projects I’ve stumbled across this year has been Passages for Lost Clouds, a daily series of small and simple line drawings by Ken Wong (sadly no longer updated). I’ve always liked the idea of completing one small-scale creative endeavor each day, so back in January I started my own daily drawing project in a 3″ x 4″ notepad. Every day (or very nearly so), I would either represent an observation or record a personal secret using only my notepad and a fine-tip Sharpie. I often feel too pressed for time to start big projects, which results in a lot of  ideas going to waste. So I hoped this would help me view art as a more habitual process, knowing that no matter how busy I was, I could always spare two minutes of my day to create something personal.

It ended up being a rather short-lived project, lasting roughly a month before I lost steam. But I would very much enjoy resurrecting the idea on a larger scale, perhaps with a series of digital sketches. For right now, here’s a selection of the mini ink drawings from January 2009.

KoibitoFrom Nippon, the first in my hopefully recurring series, Mix Fix:

Download: MIX005 (Mix no.5)

(mp3, 64MB, 1:06:08 running length)

Downtempo with an eclectic mix of lounge, indie, electronica, and hip-hop. One of my first recorded mixes, all the way back from March, and still one of my favorites, I think this mix’s variety, along with the thought and heart I put into it are what keep it continually appearing on my playlists. I hope you and you properly enjoy this mix.

Pictured left is Yokohama, Japan, Oosanbashi (Yokohama International Terminal), during Tanabata matsuri.

ThreeBoroboro begins here. It’s the idea that three friends can have a bit of fun with art together. Boroboro enables us to post and talk about our endeavors. Hit the about page for details, but basically:

Matt does architecture, DJs, and does some graphic design.

Ariel draws and does some video and photography.

Mahmoud (that’s me) DJs, photographs some, and handles some of the more technical aspects of things.

Now that’s pretty general. We do all sorts of projects, individually and together. And not just us; turns out, there’s a lot of art going on underneath our noses, so watch for the guest posts. Boroboro’s basically all your local art, conveniently around the Internet corner.

We’ll start by posting some of our older stuff. Eventually, we’re aiming for one or two posts per week, but you know, we’re pretty casual. This is a hobby for all of us, so we gotta make it last. If you think you might like to share, drop me a line.

In the meantime, sit back and subscribe.
